What about Hans Solo can we invite him, too?

Most definitely! We'll scootch over the chairs and squeeze him in. If we get more characters, we'll set up a second table!

FYI to all ...
I'm going to be out and about most of the day, so I'll catch up on comments and blog visits later.

Your list is quite good. That would be a fun dinner party. Though I worry that Scarlett would be paying too much attention to the men, rather than the food.

We need Mr. Darcy.
Be interesting to see who was more resourceful - Bourne or Bond?

That would definitely be an interesting party! I'd love it if Willy Wonka could come with some candy, too.

Can't you just see it? Jane Eyre next to Holly Golightly? Interesting dinner conversation would be going on!

Aubrie took the words right out of my mouth - Han Solo. If you invited him I wouldn't be paying any attention to the food so I'd be a cheap date, Carol.

Definitely Atticus Finch. That is one character, and novel, I will never forget.
What fun – especially if all these characters showed up at the same time!)

Marisa - Scarlett wouldn't eat too much anyway, what with that corset and all.

Alex - I vote for Bourne ... he didn't have that whole department making goodies for him.

Talli - Ooh, Willie Wonka! I think I'll add Captain Jack Sparrow to my list, too. That makes three new men at the second table. Need some more women.

Ideas, anyone?

Joanne - I can only imagine the conversations :)

Laura - You and Aubrie could sit either side of him.

Ann - I'm glad you approve :)

Jane - If they did, what in the world would we do with them all together?
Sherlock Holmes would be fun. Maybe he could find where I lost my mind.

Rick Blaine and Capt. Renault (Humphrey Bogart and Claude Rains from CASABLANCA) would be witty fun. The Nazis would not be invited. But the stunning Ilsa (Ingrid Bergman) certainly would be invited.

Philip Marlowe and Harry Dresden could compare private detective methods : deduction versus magic.

Those are just some I'd invite. Perhaps Auntie Mame to spice things up. Roland

I'd love to add Han Solo as well but I'd have to say I wouldn't want to be seated near Holly Golightly, she's far too likely to get the police involved and then skip out the back.

I absolutely love this question. I may have to steal this one for a post. :)

Bilbo Baggins, Harry Bosch, Tony Hill, Amelia Peabody, Dave Robicheaux and Ignatius J. Reilly (but he'd get his own table), Reginald Wexford and Adam Dalgliesh.
There!

Oh dear, I need more women.

Excellent list, Carol! Hmmm...more women...well, Carrie Bradshaw might be fun and keep the conversation going. Miss Marple could make shrewd observations. Professor McGonagall would be interesting - and could turn into a cat should the occasion demand.

Sorry I missed these yesterday. Love the group, but, what about poor Rhett?

OK, I think we officially have two tables for this dinner party. See the next comment for those at the second table.

Roland - I just WATCHED Sherlock Holmes last weekend. Didn't even think about him here. Duh. But he'd need to shower and clean up a bit :)

Cassandra - Keep a close eye on Holly. If she stands up, stick to her like glue.

VR - I do see the problem without enough women. I think we're now moving into three tables to even things out. See my next comment.

Elspeth - Thanks for adding women to our party!

Mason - Rhett sent back my invitation. Scrawled across the top were these words: Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn.

Oh, well done! Although, we may need a larger venue and caterers. :)

Clearly, I need to read more books with female protagonists. Stieg Larsson's Lisbeth Salander is fascinating, but not sure I want her at the dinner table.
Carol Kilgore said…
I haven't read any of Stieg Larsson's work. I'm so far behind.

I think I'd have to invite Rhett and leave Scarlett out of the picture... ;) What an interesting list, though! And what fun! Great idea, Carol.

Thanks, Kimberly! He would've been a good guest - turned me down flat. Maybe he would accept an invitation from you :)
