November.

Those who have been following me for a while may remember that while all you writers are focusing on NaNo, I'm having my own mini-freakout. To those of you who are participating - in NaNo, not my freakout :) - I wish you much success!

Whats my freakout? A dozen birthdays, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's - all between late October and January 1.

Think about that for a second. Think about the food. Slap a slice of birthday cake all around my body. Add pumpkin pie, coconut cake, apple cake, tamales, dressing, potatoes, gravy, blackeyed peas, and lots more. Don't forget the turkey. Roll it all in Halloween candy.

After writing that, I'm stuffed and hungry at the same time.

Plus gifts. Tape. Ribbon. Thank God for gift bags and tissue! And online shopping

Let's change the subject. AKA plot twist.

A few months ago, I showed you photos of my office. Not long after, I changed things around. Yeah, I'm one of those.

So I thought I'd share my new look with you.

Now I get to look straight out of my windows, except for straight ahead. There I see my monitor.

If I raise up enough to look straight over my monitor, I see this.

Back inside, one of two dogs-in-residence.

I love my new, more compact space. Maybe I'm a little more productive. Jury's still out on that.

My trilogy is still in progress, but I'm moving along on the edit. I'm now on Book #2. Books two and three should take much less time than the first book - both are shorter and require fewer story adjustments than the first one.

This project has taken me more time that I thought, but it's still an amazing journey. And I'm still in love with the characters. I'm looking forward to introducing them to you in the spring (I hope spring, LOL. We'll see what my editor has to say before I commit.)

In other news, remember the blooming bird of paradise last year? It's blooming again! As of just last week. I'm thrilled :) So far? One bloom and one bud.

I took these photos on Friday, 10/28. It was 85F and sunny. Autumn in San Antonio is awesome, but usually a little cooler than 85. Although when summer days are often 105F, 85's not bad.

That's about it from my real life world.

Blog world is different.

The Tiki Hut will be closed in December so all employees can enjoy the holidays with their families. So remember all those food events I mentioned above? I wish you a happy and a merry every single one.

Since the first Monday in January is the New Year holiday, I'll be back here on Wednesday, January 4, 2017.

See you next year!

Love and hugs,
Carol

Try eating the food instead of slapping it all over your body...
A little indulgence is all right. Just don't let it become the norm.
Glad your new office setup is working.
Wow, I guess we'll see you in two months! Enjoy your holidays.

After reading about all that food I'm hungry. Time for breakfast I guess, are pies and cakes breakfast food? Great view in your office and the blooming bird of paradise is so pretty. Hope you and your handyman have a safe and happy holidays. Good luck with the writing too. See ya next year.

Alex - No worries - January will be here before you know it. I'm just the middlegirl for sweets :)

Mason - LOL! Breakfast is whatever you make it. I see the bird of paradise from my window :)

If you still love your characters, that's a good thing.

There went your floor space. And I thought my 9 pound cat got in my way.

I get it. I have a ton on birthday from now until mid-January. Really, by December, cake is so unappetizing! :)

The Bird of Paradise is beautiful!
Oh yes, it's almost 'birthday season' in this household also. Apparently everyone in my family (me included) decided to be born in November/December. Enjoy your time with loved ones, good luck with the freakout, and don't overload yourself!

(Or if you do, at least make sure you're full of cake first. Cake makes almost anything bearable)
Carol Kilgore said…
Diane - These two don't even purr :)

H.R. - We have more birthdays between mid-October and New Year's than we do the entire rest of the year!

Beer - Me included, too :) Trying hard not to overload myself with anything. Cake or beer. Or cake and beer :)
Love your ORGANISED space. And the furry overseer you showed us. And the paradise bird.
I hear you on an excess of family birthdays at this time of year. We don't do Halloween or Thanksgiving - for which I am thankful.
Happy productive writing - and holidays.

Yup, I've got the same schedule. Everyone in my family (myself included) is born in the next month or two. It's fun, but crazy trying to fit it all in:)

I HEAR YOU! October brings 7 family birthdays ALONE. It's insanity! Add in Halloween... It's just too much insanity. Here's to NOT NaNoing!

That's a LOT of parties!! Have fun :)
Sounds like that trilogy is going to be awesome - enjoy!!
I love the new layout.
Enjoy all that food!! Yum!!
Carol Kilgore said…
EC - The overseer and his partner do a fantastic job :)

Mark - My birthday is included in our Birthday Season, too. It's crazy! So Happy Birthday to you and yours!

Crystal - Yes!

Jemi - I plan to! I hope readers fall in love with my characters and their stories, too. Color me nervous.

Lynda - Thank you! Enjoy your new home. What a view!
Just want to say I was here, mum should be here very soon to get me I have a physio appointment not that you care but thought I would throw that in there, anyway I was here and now I leave.

Great pictures of your office and the bird. The month of June is full of birthdays for us, which is fine. I can imagine how crazy it must get with so many with three major holidays in the mix. Just enjoy the time, squeeze in some editing when you can. January will be here befoer you know t!

Love the pics, particularly the pup in residence. :)

October is always crazy here, and November is starting off busy with edits and a conference. I’m hoping for a quiet end-of-November and December. We’ll see.

Have an amazing holiday season, Carol! See you in 2017 (and possibly on Facebook)!

Jo-Anne - Happy to see you here! Always. And I do care, about you and all my readers. I hope your appointment isn't for anything serious and you'll soon be good as new. Hugs!

Jan - Edit. Shop. Edit. Eat. Edit. Party. Edit. Wrap. Repeat :)

VR - Wishing you a perfect mix of crazy and quiet ♥

I admire your productivity so much. I'm only this week getting back to my WIP that I put on hold 7 months ago. I don't change my work space... If I remember to dust the laptop and empty the ashtray, I count that as a victory for the week. Congrats on all your progress. Keep it up!!
I betcha writing with a pooch in your office is a LOT easier than trying to do it with a couple of cats climbing all over you. At least the dog stays on the FLOOR. The cats are all over me, all over the keyboard, standing, stretching and lying right in front of the monitor... (But I like 'em anyway.)

I can hardly wait to read your trilogy. You might think it's taken you a long time, but it doesn't feel that way to me. I think you've done an amazing job gettin' 'er done.

Enjoy your break! Seeya next year.

Lexa - I'm not so much into weekly cleaning. More like end of project cleaning. Or if the dust gets so thick I can't stand it anymore cleaning, LOL. That's the truth. Or if I decide to move stuff cleaning :)

Susan - I feel like I've been working on this trilogy forever. But I see a flicker of light at the end of the tunnel. The dogs are great - and with this new arrangement, the barking is hugely reduced because they can't see out the window. Win/Win!

It's interesting how rearranging your space changes perspective. I love tweaking mine every once in a while. Of course, I have to turn the lights on after dark if I want to avoid running into things that's I've cleverly positioned in new places.

Here's to multiple plot twists. May you find many.
Carol Kilgore said…
Lee - I laughed. Same for me! Same wishes for you with plot twists :)
Hi Carol, Great office set-up and beautiful bird of paradise! Hope you enjoy all of the birthdays - especially your own!
Wishing you a happy Thanksgiving, birthday, a merry Christmas and a happy New Year. Best of luck with your trilogy and I'll see you in 2017!

Julie
Your work space is so organized. I'm impressed! Wish my space looked like that. As for food. Funny you should mention it. I've been eating clean since June and have lost 30 lbs. I'm happy, of course. But we leave for Bucerias at the end of the month and I keep seeing tacos and salsa and nachos in my dreams! I wish I had the answers, Carol. I guess we just eat clean and intuitively. Hungry? Eat. Full? Stop eating. That's how I'm playing this.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Carol Kilgore said…
Ack! Blogger just ate my own comment on my own blog. I said something like this...

Julie - Thanks for all the good wishes. I love our bird of paradise ♥

Joylene - Good for you! I've cut almost all sugar from my diet this year, but I haven't lost much weight. I do feel better, though. Mexican food is my downfall, and we have lots here in San Antonio. Buena comida!

Hi Carol! Love the pics. I've gone with pics in my post today too. I've had a new writing room built, so I think it is working. Well away from the everyday! I usually do NaNo, but giving it a miss this year, as I already have 5 messy novels, LOL!
Carol Kilgore said…
Denise - I'm going over to look at your new space now. It always feels good to write in a new spot, even if that spot is in the same room! Enjoy your NaNoless November :)

I like your new office set up but I'm afraid I'd spend all my time staring past the monitor at the view beyond. Of course, I'd be watching for snow, which isn't a problem for you.

I think I gained weight just reading this post. I'm blaming you.

Have a joyful holiday season, especially a very Merry Christmas (that's my favorite). See you next year.
Carol Kilgore said…
Jess - We're about at the halfway point in birthdays. Got cake :)

Linda - We get snow every once in a while, but those flakes are few and far between. Merry, Merry back to you ♥

Hi Carol,

I loved your photos. They say...that you are awesomely organized! Which I'm not by the way :)
Carol Kilgore said…
Nas - Thanks. I'm not nearly as organized as everyone believes from these pictures. It's just that clutter makes me crazy :)
Kelly Steel said…
Beautiful pictures and love your workspace.
Carol Kilgore said…
Kelly - Thanks! Have a wonderful December :)
Oh wow that is A LOT of stress during a short period of time! Cocktails help :)

Have a Merry Christmas :)
Carol Kilgore said…
Keith - Yes! One more event before Christmas, and then I think we're done until a small thing at New Year's. Merry, merry Christmas to you, my friend :)
