Congratulations, Karen!
Green Eggs and Ham - yeah, we missed that one, didn't we? Too late to come out with Purple Eggs and Yams now.

#6 was a missed opportunity for the rest of us.

Congratulations Karen. Loved the list especially the Chocolate.

I'm always kicking myself over titles! Great ones elude me. :)
Karen Baldwin said…
Yup, nothing beats a great catchy title. Have a great weekend.
Karen Lange said…
Thank you so much! This is a nice surprise to kick off the weekend. :)

Great title list. Wish I'd thought of them too.

Thanks again, and have a great weekend!

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is truly a delightful one!
Linda Kage said…
I know!! Those authors were brilliant! BRILLIANT! I'm so jealous.
LR said…
Yes, those are all great titles! Absolutely.
Luanne G. Smith said…
I'd be curious to know how many of those are titles the author thought up on their own or if they were created by the publishers. There's some funny history about Fitzgerald and the titles he came up with for his novels. Let's just say he was a bad titler. :)

That Sam I Am! Gotta love that Dr. Seuss. :)
Unknown said…
Love those titles too and Life of Pi.

I'm terrible, just awful, at coming up with titles. I often cruise bookstores just to read titles and look at book covers. Great choices!
Jennifer Shirk said…
Those ARE great!

I love: "I'd Tell You that I Love You, but then I'd Have to Kill You" too. Makes me chuckle every time.

Those were back in the day with pub publicist making the decisions but they're good ones. Course, they still do many of the titles.

Congrats Karen!

Alex - Yeah, a little late :)

Diane - For sure. The first big mash-up.

Yvonne - Yes :)

Linda G - Maybe you'll think of the next great title!

Rachna - Thanks!
VR Barkowski said…
Terrific list. Reminds me of how awful I am at titles. Is it too late to consider a mashup? Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil Green Eggs and Ham? Or How Stella Got Her Groove Back to Kill a Mockingbird? Maybe not...

Congratz, Karen!

I'm partial to P & P & Zombies. I'm still bummed that the movie version got stalled.

Laura - Mine aren't great, but either they come to me immediately before I ever write or I struggle with them and change, change, change before I settle on one. There's never been an in-between for me.

Em-Musing - You, too!

Karen - My pleasure...and Jennifer's, too!

Dezmond - That title always makes me smile :)

Linda K - I agree.
Johanna Garth said…
I really need to read Pride & Prejudice & Zombies. Is it good? Really, really good? I just love the original soooo much!
Carol Kilgore said…
LR - I'd love to be a title genie :)

Luanne - The only one that I'm pretty sure came from the author is Green Eggs and Ham. I think this is the book that Dr. Seuss wrote to win a bet about only using a few words to make a complete book.

Linda J - I DO love Dr. Seuss!

Clarissa - Life of Pi is good, too :)

Julie - I may have done some of that cruising :)

Ooh, I love the title of "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil".

I have to add David Foster Wallace's "A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again", which I always thought was really clever.
Such a fun list!! I definitely wish I'd thought of Chocolate & The Devil Wears Prada :) Along with quite a few more!
CATachresis said…
Great list!! The title I wish I'd thought of is "The Fridge Hiker's Guide to Life" !
Great list. Not only have I read (and loved) most of the titles on your list, many of them have homes in my very, very crowded book shelves.
Carol Kilgore said…
Jennifer - Oh, I like that one, too!

Sia - See my comment about Dr. Seuss above. It makes sense that catchy titles come from marketing types.

VR - LOL! You never know :)

Arlee - I didn't know about a potential movie version.

Johanna - Pssst...come closer. It's a secret. I never read PP&Z.

Always love popping in for your Friday's Top Ten (Saturday for me Down Under). And today is no different. My choice would be Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Genius!
Liza said…
You've got some great ones here. I'll add The Secret Life of Bees.
Carol Kilgore said…
Raquel - Great title!

Meradeth - Maybe we should all take a class in how to create a title.

CATachresis - Oh, I like that one!

The Elephant's Child - That's awesome. I have only read a few of the ones I listed.

Wendy - Great minds :)

Liza - Another good title!
The Devil Wears Prada - such a cheeky title!
I love Dr. Seuss!

Some of your choices made me laugh. There's a lot of variety there! I don't dream of writing a bestseller, just something that appeals to a nice niche of people who share my tastes. :-)
Golden Eagle said…
Oh, great list. There's always a bit of jealousy involved when a writer comes across another writer's great title, I think. :P
Carol Kilgore said…
Michelle - I like him, too.

Lexa - Oops, sorry. I didn't mean that I wanted to write those books. I just wished I'd created the title - or something equally catchy for one of my own.

Golden Eagle - I think you're right :)
These are all great titles. To Kill A Mockingbird is my favorite book on your list.

J.L. Campbell said…
Yes, wish I'd thought of some of those too. Have a great weekend.
Melissa said…
I love Green Eggs & Ham (the book, not the meal. LOL)
Carol Kilgore said…
Julie - A good book, for sure.

J.L. - We could be rich, LOL!

Melissa - You could make green eggs for St. Paddy's Day! Just a little food coloring :)
A great list.....................

I had to look up #2 since I hadn't heard of it.

Congrats to Karen.
Carol Kilgore said…
Jo-Anne - Thanks!

Medeia - It's an older kid's book. The title makes me smile :)

So true....such golden titles
I must say, you chose some great titles in there. I think my favorites are "The Devil Wears Prada," "To Kill a Mockingbird," "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy," "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil," and "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs." I would add "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest."

Those are good titles.

I'm rubbish at thinking up titles!! LOL!

But not as rubbishy as some film titles (mainly action movies). I mean, Die Hard. What on earth does that mean!??! Die Hard. It doesn't make sense!

:-) Take care

Tammy - Titles like these take a special talent.

Shannon - Definitely another great title.

DWei - That's a good title, too!

Patsy - And there are a lot more great titles out there, too.
Carol Kilgore said…
Old Kitty - We crossed. I don't know why Hollywood does a lot of things they do. I think 'die hard' means to go down fighting and not giving up no matter what until you can't fight anymore.
Misha Gerrick said…
Yep, I can see why. Those titles are pretty awesome. :-)
Ciara said…
Those are some amazing titles, but I don't know if I would have ever remembered them if they weren't huge hits. I have to admit I loved Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood. That is one crazy title. :)

Congratulations to Karen!

Awesome titles!

As usual a fun Friday post and congrats to Karen!

I also wanted to let you know that writing a blog post for you a while ago inspired me to write my new cookbook THE MALL FAIRIES SWEET TOOTH COOKBOOK! Thank you! I wrote Mall Fairies' stories and some of my best recipes. It's free on Kindle right now and you may recognize one story--thanks again.
congrats to Karen!

Gotta love a chance of meatballs.

What a great topic for a top ten list. I remember loving the title to Midnight in the Garden so much that I bought the book based on the title alone, but then I didn't even really like the book LOL. Still love the title though.

Hope you've had a great weekend, Carol. :)
Carol Kilgore said…
Misha - Catchy :)

Ciara - Some I would have. Especially Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. That one cast a spell over me the first time I heard it.

Nas - I agree.

Conda - Very cool! I'll have to zip over to Amazon :)

Lynda - I agree! A good meatball is hard to beat :)

Julie - Ha! See my comment to Ciara above. Spellbinding title.
BECKY said…
Congrats to Karen! And yes, those are some purdy good title! :)

I've read your Number One title and loved it! I also read the prequel or sequel...don't remember which, but loved them both!

Becky - Gotta love books about women of the South.
