Summer and Sales

Our subdivision's semi-annual garage sale was on Saturday. The HOA holds one in the spring and one in the fall. We really didn't have enough to participate this time, but it didn't stop us. And we ended up making a couple of hundred dollars for a treadmill, some metal shelving, and a few old dishes and pans. To give proper credit, Live-In Handyman did almost all the work.

I'm continually amazed by things that sell and don't sell. This sale was no exception. Thought for sure the bicycles would go, but probably spring is a better time.

So the fall garage sale is history, and Halloween is the last day our pool will be open until March. November 1 will mark the official end of summer here in San Antonio.

I planned to tie this into writing, but I'd have to work too hard for that to happen - LOL! Maybe I should have titled this post Smoke and Mirrors :)

Do you have blogs like this? Ones that start off one way and end up something else? How do you handle it?

It's happened to me before, but not too often. Because it did today, I decided to share a few photos to help you hold on to summer for a day or so longer. And a couple of the doggies, too, of course.

Wednesday Alert #1! This Wednesday, Gwen Gardner and Angela Brown of Partners in ParanormYA will be visiting the Tiki Hut. Please give them a warm welcome and make them feel at home.

Wednesday Alert #2! This Wednesday, I will be the guest blogger at Arlee Bird's Tossing It Out. I hope you'll drop in and say hi. I'll be chatting about Controversy and Harmony.

Just a way life is, everchanging.

Have a wonderful week.
Least you made some good money!

I don't mind when posts do that. As long as it doesn't take 500 words to do it. :D

LOL on the end of summer part. We've already had snow where I live. Summer ended a few weeks ago for us. Though we did have nice weather yesterday. :D

Thanks for the pictures of summer. It's freezing here right now so they were very welcome. And give those gorgeous dogs a hug from me.

Have a great week!

Both dogs have their tongues poking out! :)
It is amazing what sells and what doesn't.

Aww, you can never go wrong with doggie photos. :) Love the flower pics as well, just gorgeous.

Have a great week, Carol!
Wonderful pics Carol, enjoyed the post, Have a great week.

My blog posts do that sometimes! They're very stream-of-consciousness :) Love the pictures... the dogs are adorable!

Sure, I can start out writing one thing and end up with something else. That's the mystery and joy of writing.

Love the mangos! I'm looking forward to fall, but winter? Not so much.

Beautiful old fuzzy buds. Give them an ear scritchy for me.

Really colourful flowers in the third pic, what are those? The fruit in the first pic look like June plums, but I don't think they are. What are those? And yeah, some posts do start out as one things and wander away into another.

Hey, picking up a couple hundred is always good.

Summer already left us here in Ohio and we're enjoying a lovely Autumn. Night time temperatures have flirted with freezing a couple times and the fall colors are in the trees.

Love the pooch pics.

Blog posts...I have whole books like that! Enjoy the fall sale. :)

Gail - Good to see you again! You have a good week, too. Mine has started great!

Alex - Yes we did. Been trying to unload that old treadmill and shelving for a while now :)

Stina - I hear you on the 500 words! Snow already? Brrrr. Although I much prefer an early snow to a late one.

Shirley - Cool! Happy to pep up your cold weather. Dogs are appropriately hugged :)

Laura - When I was looking through, I didn't remember taking these doggie shots, so I decided it was a good time to use them :)

The colour of those flowers is amazing. Everything looking a little drab now in UK not many leaves left on the tress in the garden.

We had a subdivision sale here too, but I didn't participate. Our house is too difficult to find, as it's tucked back in the back!

I love Fall, but it's a little sad summer's over. We had a hot one here in St. Louis, so I'm enjoying the 70s and low humidity, though.

Julie F - Tongues and all, LOL!

Yvonne - Thanks! You have a great week, too.

Teresa - Cool :)

Julie D - I try to have a plan, but this one fell apart. The dogs are quite spoiled. Sigh :)

Bish - Good to know I'm not the only one. Not looking forward to winter here, either.

Glad you made some good sales, though. :D It's always fun to see what people do and don't buy. :D

Delores - The heeler loves ear scratches better than anything, except maybe tummy rubs and food :)

J.L. - The fruits are mangoes. The flowers/plant is Pride of Barbados.

LD - Exactly! Can't believe you're near freezing already. I'm still wearing shorts and flip-flops. Not ready for jeans yet.

Johanna - LOL! Just heard we may get a touch of fall later in the week with lows in the 50s.

Suzanne - Our leaves haven't begun to turn here yet. Our autumn will provide great weather, but it's pretty low on the beauty part. Our leaves generally go from green to yellow, red, or brown and then off within just a few days. And usually somewhere between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

I was supposed to have my yard sale last weekend but got stuck painting, as usual. But almost done so hopefully I'll have one last good weekend before I have to box it all up and wait for the warmer weather.

Cute dogs.

November 1 is the end of summer for you? Here in Colorado we're lucky if we haven't a had a snowstorm before then. I'm glad you sold some stuff at the garage sale; I have stuff around my place that I don't want to add to my Goodwill pile, but living in an old (1939) condo building means there's no chance for a community garage sale. Dang.
Carol Kilgore said…
Jay - I'm guessing we're in Still Summer here. Not the 100s of high summer, but still warm/hot and definitely air conditioning weather.

Nutschell - I think it's fun to watch them, too.

Anne - I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

Helena - Probably it will still be warm enough for shorts until closer to Thanksgiving. And maybe beyond. But we will most likely have a few cooler days along the way. That's what we call fall - when we have more cool days than warm.

People are perpetually surprising. Your dogs look nice and relaxed.
Carol Kilgore said…
M Pax - People certainly are! They were relaxed in these photos. If only they were always so - LOL

Ha! I have entire novels that start out one way and take a turn in the middle for god knows where.

And I truly, truly hope my last garage sale is behind me. I've made some good money doing them, but I hate it so much when people try to haggle down the price of something that's already marked a freaking dollar!
VR Barkowski said…
Beautiful pics, and I love the pups!

Probably because I'm a pantser, my writing always takes an unexpected turn. In fact, I write for the surprise.

We're still running the A/C here too.

Dogs and garage sales? I love it! Who needs a writing tie-in? ;)
Carol Kilgore said…
L.G. - I don't feel so bad now :)
Husband loves to haggle, so he's always in charge of that.

VR - Maybe we should just vote to skip winter this year :)

Carrie - Thanks! Just a slice of real life :)

I love the dogs and those flowers are amazing.

I tend to plan most things, including my blog posts. Sometimes my weekend random posts aren't what I expected.

Lovely photos! And yes, I often have blogs that start off one way and finish another. Ah well.
Carol Kilgore said…
Medeia - I like having a plan, too.

Talli - That's what I said. Or something close, LOL!

I so need me a treadmill, but they're abnormally expensive in my part of the world :(
Oooh, do love the pics, I've tried mangos for the first time in my life this summer :)
Glad you had a good garage sale. I like the photos of the dog and the flowers very much. The mangos look good, too. Have a great week.

I love posts that have nothing to do with writing. It shows the "living" side of the writer. :)
Jennifer Shirk said…
Sounds good!

It is funny what will sell and what won't at garage sales. It's kind of like books too. YOu never know what a reader will pick up or why. LOL
Carol Kilgore said…
Dez - Aren't they yummy! Our treadmill was used and much abused, but it still worked.

Brenda Kay - Glad you like my babies :)

Linda J - There has been much living going on with this writer for the past month or so. And it's all been good :)

Jennifer - There you go! So true about books and readers. You could have finished my post in one sentence!

Many a time a blog post has written me, rather than me writing a post. Sometimes it's fun to just let it happen. Lovely pictures. Summer is long gone for us.

Supply and demand? LOL! That's about all the business stuff I know. :)

Liza - I was all for letting this one happen!

Emily - Ha! Same here :)

LR - That plant is Pride of Barbados. I love it, too. It makes me smile :)

Glad your cosmea are still blooming!
