Ready, Set ... Work!

You might have noticed I didn't bounce around blogs too much this week. I made it to most of your blogs; sadly I didn't make it to all. Most I didn't visit as often as I usually do. I'm missing all of your stories, thoughts, and ideas.

I'm still poorly sporadic on all the social network sites as well.

In other blog news, my photo is back to a more normal size after a little fiddling. And after a little more fiddling, the Tiki Hut poem found color but still not correct formatting. Maybe next weekend I'll figure out how to do that.

The most important thing I took away from all I learned and absorbed from all the successful authors at MWA-U was that it's fine to blog and be social; but decide how much you need to write every day, and  blog and otherwise socialize online after you get your words in.

Let me repeat that message from six successful authors:
WRITE FIRST. Blog, Facebook, Twitter second.

If not, you'll have a really hard time reaching the end.

If you couldn't tell, I'm a little OCD about finishing on time. When I do, I'll be around visiting more often.

The second most important thing I learned is BE YOURSELF. Don't try to write like someone else. If you do, you'll always be a second-rate version of the other author. What's really bad is if the other author is a second-rate author. Then you'll be a second-rate version of a second-rate author. Nobody wants that.

So now back to your regular programming.

Happy Monday!

Great Advice!

Life interfers with posting, work and harvest. And what else...hm, oh, yeah, Writing!

Excellent advice. :)

I haven't been around much lately for the same reason. I think I've been putting my writing behind all the online social activities and I can't do that. Thanks for this post. It was so encouraging.

Wise words, Carol. Stay true to our hearts, and our words. Write on ...

Great advice, thanks! I can definitely just beee myself, but then I get worrying that myself is too boring.

Good advice Carol. I think being genuine in writing or whatever you do is essential. The pressure is to follow the crowd, but it is the trend setter who usually wins big.

That is very good advice about not being a second rate author. I've never thought about it that way before.

Yep, that's me, too, Carol. Thanks for reminding me...Write On!

So that's how it's done. I would have guessed it. Who wants to be 2nd rate in anything???

Easier said than done. I need to write, but alas the blogging and FB take up my first cup of coffee.
Well-said! Especially that last paragraph that totally cracked me up.

This is great advice for me, as I am really struggling right now to find the right balance. I love blogging and visiting all the great blogs I've discovered, but I'm having trouble keeping up right now. I really want to get more writing done so I am going to take this advice to heart.

Thanks for sharing, and Happy Monday to you as well! :)

Nice post, Carol, and excellent advice. Funny thing is, I couldn't care less about blogging itself. But when I don't have time to get to my regular go-to blogs? I miss you guys!

I liked your big photo. It's cute and happy. :)

I just finally set up facebook, but I'm sure I won't be on there all the time.
It's all about balance, isn't it?

It's true. I don't care much what people write about as long as they're themselves. And it's always good to be reminded that it's okay to slack on the social networking stuff. The writing should come first (some days I fail at this miserably) :)

Great message. It's really easy to lose that writing time to social networking.

Nice post--great advice! Happy writing!
I can only be myself because I would suck being anyone else!

Wise words. I've been scarce at blogs/forums for the same reason.

Stellar advice! I'm going to take it on - especially the first - I think I do the second...

Huntress - Thanks for visiting, posting and following :)

Linda G - I thought worthy enough to share.

Clarissa - This is something I know, too. I think most of us do. Knowing it doesn't make it easy to do, though.

Joanne - Exactly!

Linda K - You're not boring :)

Deborah - Thanks for commenting. I'll get around to your blog sometime this week.

Slamdunk - Exactly!

Mel - I hadn't thought of it that way either until I heard it at MWA-U.

Becky - You're welcome :)

Manzanita - Not a Scorpio!

Stephen - Mine is email and the news. But for the past two weeks, I've made it a point to speed read through those and start on my manuscript, too. If, I can do it, so can you.

Karen - Thanks to David Morrell for that. I don't remember how he phrased it exactly, but what I wrote was close.

Julie - Hope it helps.

VR - I love blogging and visiting. Sigh. Hopeless.

LR - My big photo made me jump every time I scrolled down - LOL. This one is bigger than before the giant took over for a bit, though. I haven't been to Facebook yet today. Look for me. I'll look for you.

L.G. - Some days I do, too. I'm working toward making those days fewer and farther between.

Maggie - Yes it's way too easy at times.

Laura - Thanks!

Alex - So would I :)

Rula - Good for you!

Jan - Great! I'm finding it helps greatly on writing. But I miss my bloggy peeps.

Thanks, Carol. This was exactly what I have been thinking lately, beautifully put into words. Great minds think alike, right? ;-) I am going to link to your blog from my blog tomorrow. Thanks for the inspiration.

Please delete my duplicate posts, Carol. I don't know what happened!
Great advice. Difficult to accomplish when promoting books and doing blog tours though. Guess I'll have to get more creative with scheduling. ;)

Great advice. I'm trying to heed that now. I did write bit, now a little blogger - just a little to catch up with my homies the back to writing. Really!

Yay Carol! I definitely need to take this advice. :)

Will work on that.

Pam - Great! Thank you. And extra posts deleted. I have a wonderful guest blogger tomorrow, too :)

Carol - My two cents only here because I haven't done a blog tour yet ... But I think on those days, if you plan to write, you plan to write only 500 or 1000 words - whatever you know you can accomplish fairly quickly - get those done, then go on with the blog tour and have fun because you accomplished your writing goal first.

Holly - I'm missing the interaction with my peeps, too. Once I start drafting a totally new manuscript I won't be working on it all day. But I will finish my words for the day before blogging and socializing.

Tami - Good for you!
I can't read this enough. Write first should be obvious, but I do find myself tweeting, blogging, answering emails, etc. sometimes before I hit the work in progress. Not good.

I've done that just a little this morning but I scheduled it in because I had some other work I had to get done before I start to work.
