Guest Blogger: Becky Povich

First, thank you Carol for having me as a guest blogger. I truly appreciate your kindness, and a big hello to all readers

I’m thrilled to be sitting under the Tiki Hut enjoying the glorious view in front of me: The soothing ebb and flow of the ocean’s waves, just strong enough to produce small amounts of frothy water rolling up onto the beach. Above it a royal blue sky with barely a cotton-ball cloud and the salty air tickles my fancy. It’s so visually stunning that even in 98 degree weather I feel goose-bumps up and down my tan arms.

Carol, the hostess with the mostess, suggested I bring along my laptop, knowing my creative muse would surely kick in after I arrived. She knows her stuff and never fails to impress me.

But first, I order a peach iced tea, made with fresh peaches just flown in from Georgia, poured over a tall glass of crushed ice. And for a little brain food, I choose tropical trail mix.

Ahhhh, I could live here the rest of my life.

I know why I’m here, though: To Write! I’m in the minority of Carol’s visitors this summer. I have not completed my book yet: my memoir. It haunts me but in a bittersweet sense. I want to write it. I want to finish it. I’m not afraid to do it. I’ve been talking about it for more years than I care to admit. I have a confession. I have difficulty focusing. What? I’m not the only one? Sheesh, I sure feel better!

I’m still working on the title for my memoir. One idea is:
Blame it on the Crowbar
Would that make you want to pick up the book and check it out? The crowbar explanation is in the first chapter.

Bye for now. I have my laptop at hand, and sense scathingly brilliant words ready to emerge.

I would definitely pick up a book titled Blame it on the Crowbar -- it really piques my curiosity.

Best of luck! And remember, luck tends to happen to people who keep on working, so keep writing! :)

I'd certainly wonder about the crowbar!
Hi Becky,

What a great post ... I can just picture you there on the beach with a yummy ice tea. I love the title ... it is a bit different than before.

Carol, I really enjoy your blog, and I see several of my friends on here! I am your newest follower.

Also, we will be in San Antonio in January to watch our grandson play as QB in the Army All American game. We were there in 2010 and loved it a lot.

Take care,

Kathy M.

Its great to meet you Becky! Cool title for a book. I'd at least pick it up and read the synopsis on the back if I saw it in a book store.

Intriguing title!

I struggle with picking titles too, so I tend to leave them until I have a firm hold on the complete first draft.

Thanks to everyone for stopping by and commenting.

Becky, you've been a perfect hostess here at the Tiki Hut. Thanks for guest blogging with us.
Oh, definitely an intriguing title! I would definitely pick it up and seek out why the crowbar was to blame, and for what.

Thanks again, Carol. I had a blast!

And thank you, Shannon! That's great to hear...uh, I mean read!

I love that title and it would make me pick up the book. I just finished my memoir and while it was a WIP, I called it A Dead Tomato Plant and a Paycheck. I thought I would keep that title until I came up with a better one, but after a while I realized it was the title I needed to use.

I think if a memoir is going to have humor, the title should reflect that. I suspect yours does.
BECKY said…
Hi Maryann! Thanks so much! I love your memoir title, too! And yes, mine has both humor and sadness in it. I focus more on the humorous, though, as I've learned to do about life in general! :)

Sounds like an intriguing title to me. Some peach tea would hit the spot right about now too. :)
Carol Kilgore said…
I don't think I've ever had peach tea, but it sounds good.

Blame it on the Crowbar. Love it! Oh, how terrible I am with titles. Do I ever think of anything this clever? No!!

I love Becky. What a great sense of humor she has. So glad you hosted, her, Carol.

And, Becky, I too have a confession. I'm having difficulty focusing on getting a new post written. It's been TWO weeks, the longest I've ever gone. Help me, Becky, help help me, Becky--oops, no that's the Beach Boys, subject of my two weeks ago post!)

Hi Carol! Oooh, peach tea is awesome!! ....in hot weather! :)
