Words - They're What We Do

Today I'm beginning my new writing regimen.
Today I'm beginning my new writing regimen.
Today I'm beginning my new writing regimen.
I am.

There. Now it's REALLY official.

In order to do this, I may be commenting on your blogs at sporadic times during the day and night. But I'll get there. I don't know exactly how my new schedule will shake out - the dogs will play a huge part and are suspiciously silent. If all goes well, I'll still be able to visit all of you as often as I do now except at odd hours. If not, well, I'll deal with that when and if it happens.

Here are my writing tips to you to begin the new year:

Believe in yourself.
Work hard.
Trust your gut.
Keep learning.
Practice what you learn.

Remember...when what you've been doing hasn't produced the results you want, it's time to change something.

Happy 2011!

"Remember...when what you've been doing hasn't produced the results you want, it's time to change something."

That is what I need to get better at. I have a tendency to stay on the same path when I should have switched to another one.

This is going to be an interesting year.

Don't you hate it when the dogs won't let you in on their plans (or the ways they will thwart you)?

Great goals for this bright, shiny new year!

Words of wisdom from a wise woman!
ooh. Nice alliteration. Hm.

Holly - Thanks!

Clarissa - I needed them to motivate myself, LOL.

Marian - Cool :)

Jan - Sure!

Glynis - A little change-up every once in a while is a good thing all by itself, imo.

Laura - Yes! Dogs can be cruel, LOL.

Lydia - Wonderful women welcome here. And men, too :)

I'm with Glynis. I find it hard to change a path, even when it is not the best path to be on. I will adopt your mantra and keep repeating it to myself. Was supposed to start a new writing regimen this morning and didn't. Fell back into the same pattern as always. STOP! STOP! STOP!
Stupidity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results! Thanks for the reminder.
Great writing tips. Good luck with your new regimen.

Thanks for the great writing tips! :)

Your writing tips are exactly what I've been muttering to myself. Easy to read. Not so easy to put into action. Best of luck to you, Carol! Spare a thought for me as I try the same plan.

Great tips! And best of luck with the writing regimen. I also want to get down to serious business this year... Fooled around a bit too much in 2010. :)

Maryann - Today I'm learning to deal with real life interruptions, but I'm sticking to my plan as much as possible.

Alex - You're welcome. Now it will be your turn to remind me through the year.

Jane - Thanks - I'll need it!

Golden Eagle - Hope they help.

Elspeth - Wishing you much good luck today and every writing day.

LR - Maybe we needed some reorganization time last year.
Thanks for the encouraging words! My blogging schedule... all mapped out.... has already tanked, lol. Ah well....it's all good :)

Good luck!

Words Crafter - I set an ambitious goal for my writing time today and received two long phone calls that kept me from reaching my total goal.I wrote for 3/4 of the time I'd scheduled about two hours later than I'd planned. However, I still have a lot of blogs to visit yet. And email. Tomorrow is another day.

Those are the best writing tips ever! Thank you. I'm always doing writing/blogging tasks at weird hours. But if we accomplish what we set out to do, that's all that matters right?

Good luck with the new regimen!

VR - Yea, I won't be the only one :) I made it through the first day. And I'm looking forward to tomorrow.

I think I'm procrastinating. But I'm trying to learn to be organized with the help of Sage Cohen's book.
Summer Ross said…
Great advice! and best of luck to you!
Carol Kilgore said…
Sheila - Good luck with that. I'm very organized in some ways, not so much in others.

Summer - Thanks. And I hope 2011 brings you many good writing days.

I'll have to copy those tips and tape them to my laptop!

Happy New Year and Happy Writing!!!! :D

Sounds like you're shaking it up... I wish you luck with your new schedule and whatever you need to fit into it. And great tips!
Carol Kilgore said…
Laura - Happy New Year & Happy Writing to you, too!

Hart - Trying. Trying hard. Trying to fit four solid hours of writing time into a congested day by putting the writing first. Yesterday I managed three. It's an improvement already. Now it needs to become habit.

I think I've all but given up trying to get everywhere. Now I only get where I can. It seems to work better.

Good luck with those silent dogs... :)

Good luck on the new schedule, Carol. Any visit from you, regardless of time, is enjoyed and appreciated.

Excellent advice, too. :)
Carol Kilgore said…
Elana - I don't have nearly as many commenters as you, so I hope I'll be able to continue for a while. The dogs have been great - it's as if they know.

Kimberly - Thank you. I need good luck. I'll be around as often as possible :)

Okay, so what if....what I've been doing actually does produce the results I want, but only some of the time--not everytime. What do I do then??

Happy 2011 to you too!!

I LOVE this post! :)

Happy New Year...and here's to making it spectacular!
Cheers! *clink*

Linda - I don't have an answer. If it were me, I'd try to figure out what I did differently when it worked and when it didn't. If that failed, I'd keep notes going forward and compare. And I would also pay close attention to how I did things. That has helped me this week. I still want to slip back into old ways, but I've been extremely aware when I do. Good luck!

Lola - Cool! Clinking my glass to yours for a spectacular 2011!
