Got Sleep?

After a whirlwind weekend, today I was behind before I woke up. Before I woke up the second time, that is.

I went to bed about midnight. Shiner woke me up barking about 4:30. I'm sure he was barking at either a cat or a deer. Both are known to prowl around here by the light of the moon. Or even if there's no moon.

Shiner - sweet soul that he is - has a very loud howling bark. I didn't get up, but I couldn't go back to sleep. My live-in handyman turned over and was snoozing again within five minutes. Not me. I tossed. Turned. Pushed the covers down. Pulled them up. Did it all again. And again.

Live-in Handyman slept until 6:15, his usual time to get up. I know this because I was still awake. Since I didn't get up with the dog, I didn't get up with him, either. But by that point, to be honest, I was drifting in and out of sleep.

The next thing I knew, it was almost ten. YIKES!

So I slept for about eight hours, but in two shifts. I should've just got up and put in a couple hours writing time between naps.

Next time.

Gotta run ... lots of time to make up today.

I hate when I get woken up and can't go back to sleep! I'm glad you still got your sleep in. It's important. Good luck with your busy day!

Well I consider you a great person for giving your dog a home. I have yet to be so kind. :)
Good luck catching up with your day. Oddly enough, I feel no guilt if I sleep late. Must be a guy thing.

If only we could sleep late and not have to hurry once we got up. Little One usually wakes me up around 4 a.m. for a new can of food (doesn't care that she still has food in her food bowl, demands fresh).

Good luck catching up, just don't let the day get you down.

There are few things worse than waking up during the night and being unable to fall back asleep. I lay and watch the minutes go by on my clock while thinking, "If I'm still awake at whatever o'clock I'm just saying to hell with it and getting up."

Sounds like you needed your sleep! I've been sleeping a lot lately, but last week I was waking up every day at 5 a.m. Funny how it goes in cycles!

Either we're catching up on our sleep, or catching up with our days! Hope you have a good Monday :)

Aubrie - So far so good :)

M.Gray - Thanks. We have two sweeties. One is a rescue dog.

Alex - I'm sure it's a guy thing, too :)

Mason - Little One knows you love it - LOL

Elspeth - I've done that, too.

Talli - Yes! I do that, too. Sometimes I need more sleep than others.

Joanne - Thanks! You, too.
You did better than I did -- for whatever reason, I was up at 3AM, drinking Sleepytime tea and reading. I feel like a zombie today.

LOL. This was so much like my day, I had to pinch myself to make sure I was still me and you are you. But it sure did feel good to get another hour of sleep after dealing with my poor old dog who never knows what time it is anymore.

Sleeping in shifts is never as good as sleeping in one long shift. When I do that, then I'm usually thrown off my schedule and have trouble getting to sleep the next night.

Hope you had a good day.

I hate nights like that and the interrupted sleep throws off the whole next day. Though I sometimes get up and read, I very seldom get up to write, and often don’t get up at all thinking I’m bound to fall back asleep any minute.

I find if I can't sleep it is better just to get up and do something - usually not write because writing when I'm tired isn't a good idea. Wishing you luck catching up.

Zombie Patricia - I know that feeling, but it hasn't been here today for me. I'm really happy about that.

Maryann - Shiner is only a year and a half. It's a good thing he's so sweet :)

Helen - My day HAS been good. Maybe I should do this more often???

Jane - I don't usually write either when my sleep is interrupted. But usually it's due to an allergy attack and I'm too busy blowing my nose to think.

Cassandra - Thanks. The day's gone well, despite being behind from the get go.

I’ve enjoyed looking over your blog. I came across it through another blog I follow, and I’m glad I did. I am now a follower of yours as well. Feel free to look over my blog and perhaps become one as well.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting. I'm glad you enjoyed your visit Under the Tiki Hut and thought enough of it to become a follower.
Oh, I feel for you! I'm one of the worst sleepers in the world. Sometimes I'll get up, sometimes I'll just try to wait it out. Bleh. I think I like getting up and working the best, though. Then, after an hour or so, I can usually fall asleep.

I'm an early bird and like you sometimes sleep in shifts. I love a long afternoon nap. This allows me to write late at night or at 4:00 a.m. when its peaceful.

Elizabeth - Yeah, I thought I could wait this one out. Not trying that one again for a while.

Stephen - I'm not a napper by nature. Naps leave me sluggish and groggy. I'd rather get all my sleep at one time. But I love how we're all different and how different things work for each of us.
Many times I sleep in two shifts.

I love this and relate "...today I was behind before I woke up." It sould also make a good first line in a book.

Oh Carol, I'm just about to get a new puppy, this was a reminder, I'm going to have to work "between long naps" too, soon!
Carol Kilgore said…
Teresa - Hmmmm . . . maybe one day. Sometimes, though, I think it's more like my life story.

Conda - But that new puppy will make it all worthwhile :)

Oh, I feel for you. I hate that rocky sleep – and then I’m tired all day.

Eeeww! I hope you had the opportunity to get some real rest Monday night.

Southpaw - I was surprised I wasn't too tired. I expected to crash mid-afternoon, but it didn't happen.

Kimberly - I did!
