St. Paddy's Back

Today, everyone is Irish.

I can hardly wait until it falls on a Friday for a Top Ten. But I digress.

No, I don't.

I'll still do a Top Ten this Friday, but how about an Irish Top Five?

5. Irish Soda Bread
4. Corned Beef and Cabbage
3. Danny Boy
2. Parades
and drum roll . . .
1. Green Beer

May your blessings outnumber
The Shamrocks that grow.
And may trouble avoid you
Wherever you go.

HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY!

I tried to make Irish soda bread once and it came out as a mountainous lump of burnt, dry flour. Oh well.

I love playing Danny Boy on the flute, it's a great song to play at weddings. :)

Don't forget some Irish music! I always throw on a couple of CDs of Irish music while I enjoy my corned beef and cabbage dinner.
I just put the corned beef brisket in my crock pot for dinner at 4.
Mmmmm!

Aubrie - My one try at soda bread suffered the the same fate. I decided to eat what others make.

Arlee - No corned beef for us this year. Sigh. Do you dance a jig while you cook?
Arlee Bird said…
Ha ha -- No jigging here. Magic words: "Crock Pot". No real cooking-- just toss it in the pot and then it's back to writing or whatever else I need to do. Well, maybe I should jig down the stairs and make sure it's not bubbling over.

Great top five list. I think I'll bring out my Chieftains CDs for today. Have a Happy St. Paddy's Day.

I like your plan for the day. Maybe I will try the Irish soda bread. Always wanted to.

Arlee - there ya go!

Mason - Sounds good to me.

Maryann - Good luck with that soda bread. Let me know if it turns out.

And a Happy St. Patrick's Day to you from someone who really does have Irish blood coursing through her veins.

I make Irish soda bread every year on this day. I guarantee there'll be nothing left by nightfall.

I'm sure your Irish Soda Bread is awesome, Elspeth. My one long ago Irish ancestor probably cringed when she saw me try mine. I love the real thing.

CORNED BEEF!! YEAH!!

Can I add some lucky shamrocks to your list, sharing the luck of the Irish? Have a wonderful St. Patrick's Day!

I checked with my daughter who's living in Northern Ireland. They celebrate with totally different food over there. You can see what she told me on my blog. But we went out and had traditional American St. Patrick's day fare for lunch today.
Carol Kilgore said…
M.Gray - I had lunch plans. Chinese. Maybe O'Wu?

Joanne - Shamrocks always welcome!

Terry - I'm heading to your blog right now. Can't wait to see what they eat there. Does it involve the potato?

The Irish Pub is a must on St. Paddy's Day with Irish food, folk music, and lots of people enjoying the holiday.

Backatcha. Are you going downtown today? I believe San Antonio turns the river green.

Southpaw - I love Irish pubs. Unfortunately I haven't found a good one here yet. That said, I don't go pub crawling all that much either.

Helen - Didn't make it downtown. Don't I sound like Miss Fuddy Duddy? They dyed the river green and had the boat parade last Saturday.

And a happy St Paddy's to you as well!

I didn't have any green beer today. Weird. I just didn't. No reason. That's just the way the day worked out.

I've never had any green beer. But I've been drinking Killian's Irish Red all evening -- and I very rarely drink beer (hey it's St Pat's). The Killians was on sale at Ralph's Supermarket. I was so disappointed when I got home and noticed on the packaging that it's made in the U.S.A. from an Irish recipe. Hey! I want my Irish Beer!

Can you turn Guinness beer green? :) It's my favorite.

There was an Irish soda bread recipe at the Mystery Lovers' Kitchen yesterday. Looked good!

Laura - Thanks! It was great.

Stephen - Shame on you! I'm kidding :)

Arlee - I've tasted Killian's before. It's pretty good - even if it is made here. Irish - U.S. style.

Elizabeth - I saw that. I think I'll go back and print it so I have it for next year. One more try to see if mine will turn out.
I was invited to a St. Paddy's Day celebration complete with 1,4, & 5. We also had shepards pie and homemade cheesecakes. YUM!

Danny Boy may have played once or twice in the background. I know there was Celtic music, just don't remember what. I blame the beer. ;)

We had shepherds pie this year instead of corned beef and cabbage.
