Rejections do sting, despite all the words saying don't let them! It's a world full of highs and lows, isn't it?

Rejections do sting, and I don't buy the advice of pasting them on your walls like wall paper. I say either get rid of them or hide them away in a notebook in case you ever are querying another book and can't remember whether you queried an agent before. But don't dwell on them except to see if s/he gave you any hints as to why they rejected. Let the sting go.

Laura, the writing life is like a rollercoaster. Regular, real life is like that, too, but writing amplifies it all.

I don't buy into that wall-pasting thing either, Helen. I give it a minute or two and move on. On really hopeful ones, I give it a little longer. Not much. Life is too short. Onward!

Our writers group has decided to have a Rejection Shredding Party at our year-end meeting.

Don't wallow in rejections. Accept them and move on.

Rejections seem like part of the game, sort of like snarky reviews. And the shredder seems like the perfect place to file them.
