Don't you love that word? Or hate it.

"Clean your room."

"What do you want for dinner?"

"I love you."

"I'm pregnant."
"Whatever." Pause. "You're what?"

Whatever has become an automatic catchall with more meanings than the bailout plan has dollars. Ever wonder why?

Whatever has been around since the 14th Century. That's a pretty darn long time, since even before Willie Shakespeare came along.

Whatever can be a pronoun, an adjective, or an adverb. And that's probably way more than you wanted to know.
