Tiki Top Ten: A New Year - A New Beginning

The Top Ten things about the new year:

10. 2 + 0 + 1 + 4 = 7
      7 is a lucky number!

  9. What is your favorite thing to do in January?
Sex and sleep don't count as answers to this question :)

  8. It's been cold - even at the Tiki Hut!
Did you make a snowman? Snow Angel?
      In the southern hemisphere?
How about a sandman or sand angel?

  7. Did you make New Year Resolutions?
      I didn't.
Why? Because I excel at breaking them.

  6. But, this year I will ____________.
      [Fill in the blank]
My answer: write more Top Tens!

  5. A peek at why I don't write poetry:
I tried to write something inspiring; my muse sent this.
      Blame her.
      New year
      New motto:
      Drink beer
      Play lotto

  4. Goals
      Have you made yours?
Mine are much more reasonable this year.
Bad News: I think that every year LOL!

  3. Omigosh ... I missed all of you!
I'm so happy to be back :)

  2. Guest Blogging here at Under the Tiki Hut
I would love to host one or two of you each month.
Mondays Only - your post will be alive and promoted all week.

And the #1 thing about the new year:

  1. Did you notice my new header image? Isn't it awesome!

I like the new header!
I'm no poet either. You did better than I could.
And sex can't be an answer? Now I'm bummed...

Great header!! Goes well with your books!!
Love your poem :) All the best in 2014!

Your new header is perfect. No snow or sand here. Maybe I could make a leaf angel?
Happy New Year, Carol! Love the header and the tagline!

No snow here, but so, so cold! And about to get colder.

Love your new header! Welcome back and Happy New Year! :)

Yeah, I like it too. Hope you have a wonderful and productive year.

Alex - You're funny!

Jemi - Best to you, too.

Diane - A leaf angel is perfect!

Elizabeth - It's mid-20s here this morning. Very cold for San Antonio.

Linda G - Glad you - and all of you so far - like the header. Obviously, I do, too. Linda K did a fab job!

Clarissa - The same to you!

The new header is terrific! And I still cannot believe this part of Texas is so cold. Great list-

New year
New motto:
Drink beer
Play lotto

Or write a book about a crook
And a cop who's very dense
to keep the reader in suspense

Carol, I thought one good turn deserves another...or whatever.

Oh, and I agree your new header is awesome!
Hart Johnson said…
Your poem made me snarfle. Love your lists! And it is freaking COLD here--the high tomorrow is STILL in the negatives. No snow angels or snowmen for me, but I have shoveled a few piles almost as tall as me (and I'm tall). (and I tend to do goals rather than resolutions... resolutions can be broken, goals you just keep working on)
Stephen Tremp said…
Very cool header! I'm working on one too. Nice orange tree. We had a field rat eating out oranges while still on the tree. Let only the orange peels hanging. We finally trapped in and properly made him disappear.
Bish Denham said…
I LOVE the new header! And it's nice to have you back.

No snow in the Hill Country, but this morning the birds are skating on the bird bath. :)
VR Barkowski said…
Love the new header! And I think I'll adopt your poetic motto 'cause there's nothing I'd rather do than drink beer and play lotto. :)

Welcome back!

Love the header!! I hope your 2014 is off to a great start :)

Great list!
I tend to stay away from sandmen and sand angels they are gritty!
Carol Kilgore said…
Shelley - It's closing in on noon here, and still 27.

Emily - Thanks!

David - Love the poem :)

Hart - Our 20s sound like a heat wave compared to your negatives. Exactly so about resolutions. Love your snarfle :)

Stephen - Eewww on the rat. Grackles poked many holes in almost all of ours, but we got a few very sweet ones.
Robin said…
Love the new header... first thing I noticed!

Yay for more Top Tens!!!

I don't think of myself as any kind of poetry writer either. But I admire those who do it well!!!
Linda Kage said…
Happy New Year!!! I didn't make any new resolutions either. But now I'm craving oranges. Thanks for the shout out! It's so surreal seeing that header here!
Welcome back. You have been missed. And I love your header.
Luanne G. Smith said…
Love the new header. Very apropos for the type of novels you write. :))

And, nope, I don't make resolutions. I have a few goals this year, which are keeping me offline for the most part, but they get priority right now.

Happy New Year, Carol.
Carol Kilgore said…
Bish - It's 2pm here and we're still below freezing. Last year we didn't even have winter, only a late fall and an early spring.

VR - Cool! I hate to drink and play alone. I'm aware of how weird that sounds - LOL.

OE - So far, so good. Hope the same for you.

Delores - Thanks. Glad you like it.

David - You go to the beach, you take your chances :) Happy 2014!
Hi Y'all!

Glad to know somebody else doesn't make New Years resolutions! Being a dog, I just think it would be a waste of time. My Humans think that I'm already perfect!

Y'all come by now,
Hawk aka BrownDog

I love the new header! It's so vivid and makes your whole blog sparkle with a wicked shine!

No resolutions and no goals for me. I'm too old for that stuff. What will be, will be. ;)
Carol Kilgore said…
Robin - I admire them, too.

Linda K - Did you read how much everyone loves your work? Told you :)

EC - I've missed you and your blog, too!

L.G. - A couple of mine are getting priority, too. I think the header does a great job of representing my work.

Hawkeye BrownDog - Great to meet you. I share my life with a BlueDog :)

Lexa - Oooh, 'wicked shine' :) Love it!

You're back! And yes, that is a fabulous new picture for your blog.

Seriously, my only real resolution was to get to bed earlier most nights so that I get up earlier in the mornings. Then again, you might notice that I'm commenting on your blog at 10:45 p.m.
J.L. Campbell said…
Hey, Carol,
Happy New Year!
Like you, I've given up on the resolutions. I have in mind what I want to do and work toward those goals. Your header rocks!
Carol Kilgore said…
Slamdunk - Happy 2014 to you, too!

Janie Junebug - LOL! Thanks for the warm welcome.

Helena - I'm laughing. I've been trying to go to bed earlier, too. And I'm having about the same rate of success :)

Joy - Have an awesome 2014!

What a fantastic header. We lucked out on the snow, but it got down to 6 degrees last night. Happy New Year.

I'm having two lucky things happen to me this year. Seven is my favorite number.

Welcome back.
Yeah I like the new header too, speaking of headers I took a header into the bathroom sink earlier today and now I still have headache.
I also love your new header! I don't think you give yourself enough credit for your poetic skills. Happy New Year, Carol!

Julie
Your new header is brilliant, truly wonderful and perfect! Welcome back!!!

I love the new header, but miss the serene beach scene that beckoned to me with such envy. I didn't make resolutions this year, but I did pick a theme I hope guides me. We'll see. Happy New Year-- and welcome back. :)

Medeia - Awesome!

Jo-Anne - Oh, no! Hope your headache is gone today.

Julie - You're so kind!

Lynda - Thanks! It's good to be back :)

Julie L - Your comment appeared three times. I left them up. Maybe it's a blessing :)

I LOVE your new header! It's gorgeous!
I'm glad you're back. I've missed the top ten...now I have to remember it's on Mondays or I'll be late every week. :)
I love the new header. It captures the essence of crime fiction with a kiss!
And in my 89 degrees F temperature, it would have to be a sandman!
Welcome back!

Hi Carol,

Awesome header!

You top tens are in my top ten of top tens.

I missed you, Carol. Did you miss me? I know, who is this guy? LOL

Welcome to 2014.

Gary :)

I so love your top tens and glad your back!! They always crack me up. :-) Happy, happy 2014! I didn't make snow angels but I froze soap bubbles, that was fun.
Your new header is absolutely perfect. It really suits you and your work, but without your hut, wherever will all your pals sit around to sip on mai tais now? (Okay, gulp...)

HAPPY NEW YEAR! It's good to have you back again. It was even frigid here in Georgia earlier this week. Down into the single digits. Totally unacceptable! But it's supposed to be back to the sixties by Friday.

Love your lists!

Love the new header. I didn't have to make any new goals or resolutions this year. I just took all the unfinished ones from 2013.

And I didn't build a snowman but I did shovel an area on the back deck so Sophie could pee without tying to squat in the snow higher than she is.
H. R. Sinclair said…
The banner is fantastic! I haven't made new goals or anything yet.
Carol Kilgore said…
Stina - I figured I couldn't go wrong with beer :)

Shelley - Thanks. Happy 2014!

River - Glad you like. I'm a Monday-Only woman this year. So to speak LOL!

Michelle - Nothing wrong with that.

Gary - I DID miss you! And Penny.

Tracy Jo - I never heard of freezing soap bubbles before. How fun! And pretty, too.

Susan - In your honor I placed a Tiki Hut by the poem near the top of the right sidebar. See?

The former header photo is now the banner on my regular Facebook timeline.

We had 19 Tuesday morning and 69 Thursday afternoon.

LD - Such a good mommie. Sophie thanks you :)

Southpaw - Thank you. I think you still have time.

I noticed the new header right away. It's fantastic!!

And I have to say. I loved your poem. It reminded me of my trailer trash days as the county 'Possum Queen. Sigh, good times.
Carol Kilgore said…
Ava - Glad you like the header. I understand Possum Queen is a sought after title :)

Your new banner was the first thing I noticed -- very cool. I don't make resolutions either; I set goals for myself. If I don't reach them, I don't eat. Or something like that...
Carol Kilgore said…
Julie - Glad you like it. It's great to be back.

Old Kitty - I know Charlie and Gumtree vote for more sleep :)

Milo - Something like that , LOL!
