A-Z Solomon's Compass Style: August Janacek

Hi, I’m AJ. Well, my real name is August Janacek, but everyone here in Rock Harbor, Texas, calls me AJ.

I’m excited to be the point man for the entire SOLOMON’S COMPASS crowd you’re going to meet during this A to Z Challenge. You’ll meet the main characters, get a mini-tour of our town, and develop a feel for the story. Be sure to listen closely . . . some of the people around here couldn’t keep a secret if their lives depended on it.

Carol said she hoped letting me do the introductions here for A-Z would make up for me not having a larger role in the story. She was right. I like knowing what’s going on ahead of everyone else.

One time I asked Carol why she relegated me to the third tier of characters. She said I could take on more, but a bigger role for me would interfere with my fishing time.

I said, “No, ma’am. Third tier’s fine. The reds are running, and I don’t want to miss out.” I spend enough time driving my tow truck and keeping my boat in shape. And a few other things. But Carol knew she could call on me anytime she needed me, and I’d show.

By the time she finished the story, we’d become pretty good friends. Just the other day she said that whenever she wears red now, she thinks of me.

I’ll take that.

And plenty of time to fish.

Pleasure to meet you. I’ll be around all month, so I hope we become better acquainted.

õ

This week and next, Carol’s doing a blog tour for our book, SOLOMON’S COMPASS. Today she’s at L.D Masterson’s blog. As to the topic … she swore me to secrecy.

You’ll just have to go over there and find out for yourself.

See, there's advantages to not being the center of the action!

Nice to meet you, AJ. :) I hope your red shirt has better luck than the original Star Trek cast members had with it!

Michelle - Maybe not so simple.

Bish - I like your name.

Teresa - Some people think so.

Delores - She's solid.

Hi AJ - how clever of you to slide us slowly into the story. I can't wait.

Something tells me AJ is going to get his own book. Yeah, that'll mess with his fishing!

Lucky for you, AJ, your name starts with "A" and we get to meet you first, even if you aren't the center of the novel. :D

Jan - Had to be careful. I met Taylor early in the story, then I had a project to finish, and I have to leave room for others to share their stories, too.

Willa - A man's gotta fish. Know what I mean?

Michael - Priorities. I like that.

Julie - Blogger is playing an April Fool's joke today. You just showed up.

Luanne - Sometimes it's all about being at the right place at the right time. With the right name!

Hey AJ, you may not remember, but we've met before. Nice to see you again. How's fishing at the Tiki hut?
Carol Kilgore said…
LD - Great to meet another initial person!

Gwen - Don't track her down too soon. I'm liking my life just fine right now :)

VR - Hey there! Great to see a face I recognize. I walked down to the pier this morning. The specks were running, and I caught a couple for dinner. I'll pick them up on my way home.

This was a really fun character guest post. It's not very often that the supporting cast gets a chance to stand at the forefront!

I adore this guy! I'd like to get to know him better. I don't know how you could make him come to life so well in just a few lines. Sprinkle me with some of that writing characterization dust please! :-)
Carol Kilgore said…
Kayla - It helped that my name starts with A.

Nel - Great! We have a few surprises in the works.

Lexa - Stop by if you ever come to Rock Harbor, and I'll show you how to fish Texas style.

I like August's voice. And I'm gonna pretend to know what he means by "the reds are running" -- those are fishies?
I enjoyed meeting AJ and look forward to the rest of your characters!

Julie
Carol Kilgore said…
Helena - Not just any fish! The best fish around for my money. The redfish. Loves the shallow water in the bays. I'll tell Carol what you said about my voice.

Julie - If you like me, you'll love the rest of the Solomon's Compass crew!
