Groundhog Day - Texas Style

Everyone knows Texans are a little . . . different. It's a good thing, if you see it from the Texan's point of view.

So it should come as no surprise that we have our own version of Groundhog Day - ARMADILLO DAY!

Sometime around 12:30 this afternoon, Bee Cave Bob will come out of his hole to tell us when spring will arrive. Let me just say that it's cold enough here to freeze his little B.C. Bobby butt, so I hope someone brings along an armadillo-size snuggie.

If the lazy bums in Austin would've done it this morning - like the good folks in Pennsylvania - there's no way Bee Cave Bob would've seen his shadow either. I'll pop in with an update as soon as I hear what BCB has to say.

In the meantime, I suggest we all do a Bring On Spring dance to help Punxsutawney Phil hustle things up a bit. It will also help us stay warm.

Happy Groundhog Day!

As long as Bee Cave Bob decides that spring is coming soon the rest of us won't have any problem!
Happy Armadillo Day to you, Carol! Here in Louisiana, I guess it would Happy Alligator Day. 'Course a happy day for that critter is usually an unhappy one for the one that he's just caught in his jaws! LOL. Stay warm, Roland

Our groundhog's name here in CT is Chuckles. I don't know if he saw his shadow or not, but I doubt he could get through the mountains of snow we have to even try :/

Colette - Phil said an early spring. It's still cloudy here, so Texas has hope :)

Roland - I imagine it's just as cold where you are. Brrr.

Joanne - You guys were walloped for sure. Poor Chuckles. Let's all vote for Spring to arrive on March 1. Or sooner.

I did read, I think it was Punxsutawney Phil, that spring would be early. For whom? We're having spring right now in Harrisonburg, Virginia, though the midwest is buried. I have a niece and nephew and their families in the Chicago area. They're buried. Schools have closed. O'Hare is shut down. I'm sure THEY'RE wishing for spring! As it sounds like Texans are, too!!

Love the bit about the snuggies! Hope Bee Cave Bob says spring's coming soon.
Here in Idaho, the trick would be to make it last. It arrives, tricks us into our warm weather clothes and then the gray skies and cold descend in May.
But now we're snow free, so I'd better count my blessings!

I once knew a man from Punxsutawney. He said it was the best place on earth! But when I spent a winter in State College, PA, I really froze. That was in the sixties, so not much change, huh?

My husband grew up in Houston, so I totally get it!

Bee Cave Bob indeed! That is so silly. Of course a groundhog named Phil from a town I can't even spell is pretty silly too. Who thinks of these ridiculous things anyway?

I *love* knowing Texans have Armadillo Day! Up here we have some sort of marmot who decides. Sadly, I haven't heard whether he saw his shadow or not, but as I look outside and see the sun shining, I can make a fairly good guess.

Ann - I imagine this weather is heading your way. No official news yet from Bee Cave Bob, but I know it's still cloudy, so I don't think he saw his shadow either. Yea!

Kathy - We've been using AC for a while by the time May arrives. But it's not summer-hot yet.

Angela - Right...not much change weatherwise.

Aubrie - No Place But Texas :)

Arlee - I'm thinking it's people with way too much free time on their hands. Or those that want to have a little fun in life :)

Talli - Thanks! Same to you.

Elspeth - No shadows here. I have to Google marmot now to see what they look like.

Madeleine - I loved that movie!

Alex - Google and find out.

Elizabeth - So do I.

Conda - She might be. Bee Cave is right near there.

Don't know if it means anything, but General Beau Lee, Georgia's official groundhog, predicts an early spring.

Anyone know why Georgia has their own groundhog?

Hahaha! Armadillo Day!
I like the idea of Armadillo day! I hope Bee Cave Bob’s armor keeps him warm in case someone forgot the snuggie.

How odd. I live in Bee Cave and have never heard of Bee Cave Bob. I can tell you though that he did not see his shadow. We have been overcast all day. And cold. I want my Texas heat back!
If Bee Cave Bob had been here in SLC, he would have seen his shadow. The sun's been out all day. But it's sooooo cold. Certainly not armadillo weather.

Golden Eagle - Thanks. It was COLD.

VR - The same reason Texas has its own armadillo - LOL.

lbdiamond - Anything for a laugh :)

Jane - I'm wondering if those would be called Arma-Snuggies?

Helen - I thought you'd know all about Bee Cave Bob.

Kathi - Maybe spring will come to the west late this year.

Hannah - You're hereby an Honorary Texan.

Lydia - You, too!

Happy Whisk - Backatcha.

Holly - I think so, too.

Now how cool is that? Not to mention original. I think is clever! Go armadillo! I hope we get spring soon. We're buried in snow up north :(
Cheers!
P.S. Carol, I hope you don't mind my mentioning your blogpost about "wondering" in my latest post ;)

Not at all, Claudia. I appreciate the shout out.

Armadillo Day! I love it! The Wolverine in Michigan couldn't see his shadow either... hopefully that will prove more accurate than Fat Phil's 39% rating...

Funny Carol. I have to say I like Armadillo's better, maybe it's a western thing.

You have an award on my blog.

Hart - The sun has been a stranger here for a couple of days. Maybe that's why I can't get my act together.

Nancy - Might be. Thanks for the award. I'll be right over!

That's awesome! Boy do I hope spring will be here soon. Not too soon lest we have flooding. Any chance we can not have snow/ice tomorrow (Sat) will be much appreciated. ;-) Happy Armadillo Day, Carol!
