Another Wednesday Grab Bag

Wednesdays Under the Tiki Hut are usually perfect for those of you who might be attention challenged. Bits and pieces of this, that, and the other for the most part. Or photos. No photos today :(

This.
Tomorrow is Veterans Day.
On the eleventh hour, of the eleventh day, of the eleventh month...
It's also called Remembrance Day and Armistice Day.
You can read the history of Veterans Day here.
As a military spouse, I thank you for remembering those who served.

That.
The Cherpumple.
If you haven't yet heard of this Thanksgiving combo dessert, go here - it's short.
You gotta see it to believe it.
Has anyone eaten one?
Made one?

The Other.
Did you know . . .
A cat has 32 muscles in each ear.
An ostrich's eye is bigger than it's brain.
Tigers have striped skin, not just striped fur.

I want to be a tiger :)

I have never heard of cherpumple. Wow that dessert is huge. My kids would have a sugar high for real.

Very entertaining post! Thanks.

Hey Tiger Lady, I have an award for you over at my blog.

No wonder cats are always twitching their ears around when they hear something. They have the muscles to manage it.

I never heard of Cherpumple, gotta check that out. And I had no idea Veteran's day was also on the eleventh hour. Interesting.

Thanks for the tidbits!

I didn't know that about Tigers, but it makes sense. I've noticed my calico cat's skin is the same color as her fur patches.

Joanne - Thanks!

Chary - LOL...I can barely imagine it, much less ever think about trying to make the thing. Welcome to the Tiki Hut.

Linda - Ooh, I'm coming to check it out. Thanks :)

The armistice treaty ending the first world war was signed at the eleventh hour, of the eleventh day, of the eleventh month.

Laura - Maybe your calico is part tiger :)

Cherpumple? Fabulous! Now I know what to serve with my Thanksgiving turducken.

Thank you for the Veterans Day reminder. I hope we all take some time to pause, reflect, and thank those who have served and are serving our country.

Thanks for the reminder of Veterans Day. It's important to honor those who have fought and those are still fighting.

Love your post today.

Carol, I'm a military wife too. Shows you how smart I am. I didn't know about the eleven, eleven, eleven.

That cake is unbelievable!I wonder how many calories are in a sliver.

I don't think I'll be playing with my cat's ears anymore.

Happy Hump Day!
ooh great info Carol, military wives are the bees knees imho
Carol Kilgore said…
VR - Turducken and Cherpumple...what's next?

Glynis - I love how cats can turn their ears backward.

Joanna - You're sweet :)

You and all military spouses (past and present) have my endless admiration. I think, in many ways, it's harder to be the one at home than the one away.

I've never heard of cherpumple. It sounds like a skin disease from the Renaissance.

I did, however, know about the tiger skin.
Thanks to all the Veterans and serving military for defending my freedom. Words cannot express my gratitude.

I love that tiger stripes are skin deep. Cool!
Carol Kilgore said…
Elspeth - I agree about the sound of cherpumple :)

Teresa - I love that, too.

Your this and that and the other are great. Living in Mexico, I forget about Remembrance Day. Thanks.

Will be remembering and honoring a number of veterans in my family tomorrow.

That cake is absolutely sinful. Sounds yummy but an awful lot of work.

Armistice day, definitely I'll be remembering. I just posted a tribute for my Uncle on my blog. ;)

Tigers are magnificent btw. x
Carol Kilgore said…
Clarissa - I'm glad you liked them.

Maryann - Let me know if you make it, OK :)

Talei - I just read your blog piece. It's magnificent...like a tiger.

That is the dessert version of the Turducken.
I think I just gained 5 pounds just looking at it!

Speaking of Veteran's Day, I hope the retailers that use this holiday to attract customers to their stores honor our men and women in uniform and donate some of their profits to related charities. Otherwise, they're just exploiting this day of rememberance.

Bon Apetit has definitely changed their, um, target group since I last read a copy...

Think I will pass on that one!

But you made me laugh, Carol, and on my deadline, I needed a laugh.

Love this blog!

Lydia - Exactly. I'm glad I'm more a real food person than a sweets person.

Stephen - That would be nice. A lot of military live in and around San Antonio, and many retailers offer a discount every day. It helps.

Patti - Live. Laugh. Love. One out of three ain't bad :)
Hi Carol - I come from a military family, too.

I love the other. I didn't know their skin was striped as well. That's awesome!! Thanks for the info. =D

Thank you for the reminder of Veteran's Day.

I think even reading about that dessert made my teeth ache. Yikes!

I want to be a tiger, too. :)

I married a Tiger--it's a chaotic exsistence, being ready to pounce all the time--the ups and downs are a bit wild... possibly something like that cherpumple...

I do send appreciation though, to your hubby and those like him who've served. I have often disagreed with the management, but the men and women who serve are heroes.
Carol Kilgore said…
RaShelle - Military and civilian worlds are different, but we're all people :)

Kimberly - I'm laughing...made my teeth ache, too.

Hart - I know what you mean.

Re: Cherpumple – It doesn’t sound very good. I guess the chef wanted to compete with the turducken.

Cherpumple. What? I've never heard of this but it sounds like of sickly!
Carol Kilgore said…
Arlee - LOL...with claws :)

Holly - That's what I'm guessing.

Talli - I agree. It's something I'd take a pass on. Besides, there's no chocolate!
