The Day the Dog Ate His Leash

If I wrote kid books, I could probably make a cool story out of this. But I don't. So I won't.

But, yes, sweet little Arf downed that sucker as if it were a burger and he was coming off a two-day drunk. All six feet of it.

He's fine, none the worse for wear. And doggie training goes on. But now he's wearing an old, beat to hell PINK nylon leash instead of his nice slim leather one that matched Woof's.

So speaking of wildlife, Sunday we went here:

And saw this:

And this:

And this:

And more.

My life is a zoo.

I'm glad your pup is okay! The whole leash, omg! And an equally astonished omg at that ostrich, wow ... A whole latte animals going on here today at the Hut :)
So glad my life isn't a zoo but I enjoyed looking at pictures of yours!

Joanne - Thanks. Me, too.

Karen - You don't know what you're missing, LOL :)

I hope he chewed well first. O.o

Ostriches can be mean suckers. One tried to peck its way into my car on one of those drives. Beautiful photos!

Glad to hear Arf is okay. Just never know what they'll do sometimes. LOL
Love the photos.

Laura - He chewed very well. Tiny pieces. I was warned to take off my earrings in advance of the ostrich.

Mason - Boy, is that the truth.

Glad you enjoyed the photos.

He ate his leash?! Oh my - so glad he is okay. That ostrich looks like he means business as well!

Your life sounds pretty interesting to me! That dog story sounds like a good headline for a newspaper! Aren`t they like little children? And yes, Val has those ostriches on her doorstep (Monkeys on the roof) and tells ghastly stories of them chasing her cleaning lady around when she carries her basket of laundry on her head. Africa is still a lot crazier!

Oh, wow! Love those pics! So cool.
Carol Kilgore said…
Jayne - Yup. All but about two inches hanging off his collar. I'm glad he's OK, too. That ostrich thought he was the gatekeeper.

Angela - I don't think I'd like an ostrich on my doorstep. Or maybe I would - a watch-ostrich :) They're huge!

Jennifer - Thanks.

Perhaps puppy saw you eating spaghetti and was jealous. Just a thought...

I love ostriches. They look stupid and smart at the same time. Bonus; they're delicious.

Wonderful pictures. Did you take Arf with you? Can't believe he ate the leash! Are you sure he'll be okay? Can he digest a leather leash?

Oh, MY! Jennifer has introduced me to the most interesting folks!

Did a B&N book signing in San Antone last year--which is only 90 miles from my in-laws' Beeville home!

It's so nice to meet a fellow Texan--yep, born in a car in Waco...and returned during college days to one of my early homes, the Baylor boys' athletic dorm.

Hope we can become bloggites! When you have time, visit me at www.pattilacy.com/blog!
Blessings,
Patti

Great pics, but let me get this straight: Arf ate his leash?!!! Oh good grief, something else to keep an eye out for. So glad he's okay. I suppose there's not all that much difference between rawhide and leather, but still, I'd keep an eye on my belts if I were you. :)

Elspeth - I'm SO laughing! Maybe so. Delicious, eh? Maybe one day. . . .

Helen - Arf and Woof stayed home. So far no ill results - and lots of little pieces.

Patti - "It's so nice to meet a fellow Texan--yep, born in a car in Waco...and returned during college days to one of my early homes, the Baylor boys' athletic dorm." There's bound to be a lotta stories in there somewhere :)

VR - Yes, he ate his leash. I couldn't believe it. We knew about shoes, although he's never eaten one. And socks. Now we'll watch belts, too.
Your dog ate the whole leash? I'm trying not to think of the end result of that!
Isn't it amazing what dogs will eat? I have a friend who tied his dog to his Harley and when he came back the dog had eaten the spark plugs. Nothing's safe. :)

Alex - The entire 6' leather training leash minus about two inches attached to the metal part that clips to his collar. The end result was what you might imagine. Small pieces in various locations around the backyard.

Kathi - Spark plugs? OMG. I can believe it. I have watch Arf eat rocks. The leash shouldn't have surprised me.

Seeing the last picture I have to wonder how hot it was?

Your dog sure can eat some strange items if he ate that much leash! Have you tried giving him a natural treat of deer antler chews? This is 100% natural & comes from SHED deer antler horns so you can buy w/ a clear conscience! They don't splinter & they contain nutrients!
Carol Kilgore said…
He is a strong chewer. I've never seen deer antler chews. He's had just about every other type of chew. Can you tell me where to purchase them? We have a PetSmart and a Pet's Barn near us. He eats premium dog food plus a couple of eggs a week, so he shouldn't be wanting for any nutrients.

Temps here on Sunday were in the upper 90s. It was hot.

I've been reading a few different things online & the reviews are quite good, especially for the all natural kind, meaning NOT bright white, but a bit off color so they've not been processed.

For online, copy & past this link in your browser.

There are a few companies, & you can try calling your local pet stores. These sound like a preferable option to leashes!

I can see why the animals were wading in water if it was almost 100 degrees! That's kinda hot!
Carol Kilgore said…
Thanks. I'm going to see if I can find them locally. If not I'll order online. Almost anything is preferable to leashes, except maybe rocks and sparkplugs.
Sounds like the dog had a crazy moment there. I hope there are no after effects.

Love the pictures. Life is indeed a zoo, but at least we don't have ostriches or emus trying to climb in our cars...yet.

It's been a week, so I think we're good to go.

Wow, dogs will eat anything. My neighbor’s dog ate a lint brush. Cool zoo pictures.

So... does the leash come out the other end? I can't help but wonder!

Glad he's OK.
Carol Kilgore said…
Holly - I'm encouraged hearing stories of other dogs eating strange things.

Talli - Yes, in small pieces.
