Name It and Claim It

Desk Update:

I found my calendar! And the binder for my WIP!

The mess is organized, and I now have three stacks. It took me 15 minutes a night on three separate nights to get this far.

One of the stacks is the next chapter to edit of my WIP. One is things I have to read, including the book I'm about to finish and things about the dog training we're involved with now. And more.

The other stack is the binder for my WIP. Look at it! I moved things out a little so you can see. LOTS to do here to get this organized. Do I hear side bets for the number of nights it will take me to complete this project?

Another update Monday.

Maybe I'll have some of the binder organized. Now . . . you know I have to pull things out and make a mess while I work on it. Right?

Kwik FAQs:

The Remington typewriter and Remington guns - rifles/shotguns/etc. - were part of the same Remington company. Who said words can't hurt you?

Western artist Frederic Remington was not part of the typewriter/gun family.

Neither was TV private investigator Remington Steele.

Even though steel was used in those Remington guns and typewriters.

WOW, your desk looks great. I don't think mine will ever look that neat. Love the FAQs.

It's nice to be organized. I wish I could organize my daily schedule to fit in the time to organize things. Of course, if I had everything well organized then I wouldn't waste so much time looking for things and would have have more time to get more organized. It's a vicious cycle.

I think I need to set a day aside to do nothing but organize things.

Mason - Thanks. I may be finished with my WIP before I get the binder together though.

Arlee - I'm working on this for only 15 minutes each evening. When/if I ever finish, I can use those same 15 minutes or less to keep things organized. That's my plan. Stay tuned :)

My closet system gets installed tomorrow. Then I start the organization process.

If only Remington Steele was the heir to the Remington fortune. Sometimes I just can't believe the writers for that show made up that name. I mean, can you get more dramatic???

Looking good, Carol--now to the writing!

Terry - I'm actually kind of getting into this organization thing. Should I tackle my sock drawer?

Lydia - You know how writers are :)

Conda - Oh, yeah . . .

Love those quick facts. It's not my desk that's untidy; it's the wonderful hole underneath my desk. And my "file" is a large, very disorganized envelope, overflowing with stuff. You look so very organized!

Your desk looks amazing! I wish mine was so neat.
Just seeing your writing space makes me want to go write. Right now!! Aargh, but I can't. I have to clean house. Which is why I'm blogging.

Clarissa - Thank you. And I'll thank my friend for giving me the push I needed.

Sheila - I may try Kwik FAQs again if my brain ever lands on something else fun. Scroll down to Monday's post to see the 'before' photo. It shows the real me :)

Talli - See the above note to Sheila - LOL.

Karen - I'm so laughing. I hate housecleaning. After my binder is finished, I'm going to dust my desk. Now that all the clutter is controlled, that will be necessary more often. Achoo!

Your desk looks great, but your rediscovered WIP folder is huge!

Are you finding that you are writing better/more effectively now that organization is taking shape in your work area?
Congratulations on your organization project. I’m afraid if I had my desk looking that neat, I wouldn’t want to work there for fear of messing it up!

Had to laugh at your recent posts on organizing. I was forced to do some today when I had to move my printer and everything I had stacked between it and the side of my bookcase fell all over the floor. Instead of putting it all back, I sat down on the floor and sorted through it. Ended up with barely a quarter of the stuff that had been there and it is all neatly in two folders.
Carol Kilgore said…
Southpaw - I know. Sad, isn't it?

Joanne - Maybe. The past few days have been productive, but it's too early to tell for sure. I hope in a few weeks I can give it two thumbs up.

Jane - I know that feeling! But it's nice.

Maryanne - Wow! I'm impressed :) It would've taken me much longer to finish that project. I do OK sorting. Less OK figuring out 'exactly' what to do with something so I know where it is.

I know I left a comment earlier today...it appears to have disappeared into the netherworld.

Anyway, what i said was although i congratulate you on your clean desk, I'm really more grateful for the Remington Steele reference as that took me back to a really good place. Ah....Pierce Brosnan...ah....

Carol, your desk is a thing of beauty!!! Look at the way the light gleams off the polished surface. Ravishing!

That looks very organized! You don't want to see my desk!
Carol Kilgore said…
Elspeth - Oh yeah. Quite a hunk :)

VR - It's only polished because it's been covered with paper for months since the last time I cleaned it.

Aubrie - Well, you saw the before picture of mine. If I can do this, so can you.

I loved your facts. Great read. And nicely done on organising the desk. Hope it all helps.

Thanks all around. I hope the clean-up helps, too.

Your desk is looking fabulous and quite professional. I find it helps if each night before I shut off the computer and turn off the lights, I straighten the desk a little.
